We are looking for suitably qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate to undertake research within the research groups of A/Prof Girish Lakhwani at The University of Sydney and Dr Anthony Chesman at CSIRO, Clayton towards the development of next-generation light emitting devices. This project will explore fabrication and characterisation of next-generations LEDs and lasers. The appointee will join a multidisciplinary research team, with strong interactions with other research groups and institutions working under the ARC Centre of Excellence in Exciton Science (ACEx).

  • a PhD in physical chemistry, applied physics or a related discipline
  • demonstrated skills and experience in fabrication and characterisation of organic semiconductor light emitting devices
  • proficiency in building/modifying and using device characterization and optical spectroscopy setups
  • working experience in MATLAB and origin softwares
  • demonstrated ability to conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision
  • the ability and a willingness to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams to contribute to long-term research goals
  • excellent communication (written and verbal), organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

Experience in fabrication and characterization of organic semiconductor photonic and/or polariton lasers will be highly regarded.

Key tasks of the appointee will also include contributing to the milestones of the research platform on light emitting devices within the ACEx, liaise and have frequent discussions with collaborators and prepare reports on research progress. The successful applicant is expected to be involved in supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and take on a leadership role in the day-to-day operations of the device fabrication laboratory. The ability to work both as part of a team, and independently, coupled with excellent communication, organisational and problem-solving skills is required.

The successful applicant is expected to travel frequently between Sydney and Melbourne and spend a significant amount of time in both cities to work on collaborative projects between the University of Sydney and CSIRO.

The successful applicant can start the role immediately once appointed, but if not immediately available will be required to commence the role prior to the 31st of October 2021.
