Job Description
Social Service Research Centre (SSR) at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS), would like to invite suitable candidates to apply for a full‐time position as Research Associate. The appointment will be for a period of 2 years at the first instance, with the possibility of renewal.
Since April 2015, SSR has been creating change through impactful social service research and capability development. We are dedicated to promote and test social innovations and help evolve a new social service infrastructure for Singapore's next phase of social development. As the only entity dedicated to research on social interventions in Singapore, SSR is the focal point of rigorous applied research, working in tandem with social service leaders in government, civil society, and private philanthropic institutions to critic, test-bed and facilitate large-scale, community-based service innovations through a variety of methods including programme evaluation and social analytics.
The Research Associate will join a multi-Agency national longitudinal research project. The project focuses on the rehabilitation and reintegration of youth offenders in Singapore. The target sample is youth offenders and youth at risk. The study will examine the interaction between developmental and environmental factors with regard to offending, and investigates the influence of these factors on successful rehabilitation and reintegration of youth into society.
The Research Associate will perform a crucial role in managing the data-related tasks in the study.
He/She will:
- Conduct data analysis and communicate findings to stakeholders
- Prepare research reports and publications
- Manage the operations of the research project data
- Participate in research related activities (seminars, workshops, etc.)
- Provide assistance to coordination duties [between Fieldwork Team and Data Team]
- Undertake administrative tasks related to the research project
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in relevant areas, degree by research or at least two years’ experience in large scale research projects
- Proficient in data-related tasks
- Excellent scientific writing skills
- Excellent in quantitative research methods (such as SEM) and proficient in the use of SPSS or other software such as R, Mplus, Stata.
- Excellent work planning and time management skills
- Able to multi-task and work under pressure in a changing environment
- Good communication skills (e.g. inter-personal skills, ability to present findings to different stakeholders)
- Strong interest in research in the forensic and rehabilitation field
- Self-motivated: Able to work well both independently and as a member of a team
- Passion for high-impact research
Preferred
- PhD in quantitative psychology
- Research experience in longitudinal studies
- Publications in scientific journals
