The Centre for Climate and Energy Policy (CCEP), is a network of researchers and experts working on climate change economics and policy and analysis of related topics. CCEP is an organised research unit at Crawford School of Public Policy at The Australian National University.

We share an active interest in informing policy and public debate. Our remit includes the analysis of cutting greenhouse gas emissions, as well as adaptation to climate change impacts. The focus is on Australia and the countries of the Asia-Pacific region.

Part of CCEP's activities fall under the Centre for China in the World’s Energy Transition Spoke, a platform for ANU researchers working on policy issues related to energy transition, with a geographic focus on the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, or with collaborators from these locations.

The Opportunity

CCEP is offering an entry-level academic appointment for a Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Associate to be the lead analyst in a research project tracking and analysing Chinese energy and climate policies and contribute to relevant publications. This position requires strong Chinese language skills. The Research Associate / Postdoctoral Fellow will also be expected to assist with research projects of other spoke members, and to make contributions to the administrative tasks for the Energy Transition Spoke activities, including organising research workshop(s) or webinars and outreach, e.g. through ANU websites and social media.

This appointment is currently being offered as a fixed term contract of six months full-time, with possibilities for extension if and when further project funding is secured. A part-time appointment for a commensurately longer period is possible. 

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have a recently completed Masters degree, recently completed PhD degree or working towards their PhD in a relevant area (e.g. environmental policy, economics or other relevant social sciences), coupled with strong Chinese language skills (especially reading). You will have experience with qualitative research methods including energy and climate policy analysis.  We are looking for someone who can work co-operatively in a small academic team environment and communicate effectively in English.
