Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in the Centre for Water Technology and Policy of the Faculty of Social Sciences (Ref.: 504461), to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

The Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering, in collaboration, have jointly established the Centre for Water Technology and Policy to conduct inter-disciplinary research on water science, technology and policy issues relating to the broader urban sustainability agenda. The Centre is dedicated to pursuing excellence in research and teaching on water technology-policy interface issues, and to reaching out to the larger community to stimulate discussion on salient research findings.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in a Social Sciences discipline or in Environmental Engineering; excellent writing and speaking skills in English and Chinese (including Cantonese); and a good track record in conducting research relating to public policy analysis.

The appointee is expected to participate in the Centre’s research projects in the areas of water reuse, water resources management, urban sustainability, and forging the technology-policy nexus. He/She will work closely with the Centre’s Executive Director and a team of investigators from the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Social Sciences to conduct research on water policy issues in an independent manner, with guidance provided. He/She will be responsible for overseeing data collection, conducting public policy analysis, and preparing manuscripts for publications in peer-reviewed journals. He/She will also assist with developing funding proposals. The appointee is expected to contribute to the Centre’s teaching and learning activities and other public engagement projects. Enquiries about the post should be sent to watertpc@hku.hk.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.

The University only accepts online application for the above post. Applicants should apply online and upload a covering letter, together with an up-to-date CV and a statement on what they perceive to be Hong Kong’s major water policy challenges. Review of applications will start as soon as possible and will continue until August 31, 2021, or until the post is filled, whichever is earlier.
