The RNA Genomics group invites applications for a postdoctoral position funded by the National Institute of Health Research UK, focusing on improving diagnostic testing of genetic disease using RNA and transcriptomics, in particular investigating how transcriptomics can uplift and inform genomics. What diseases would be investigated can be flexible and possibly adapted to the applicants interests, but could include cardiac genetic disease or neurodevelopmental disorders.

The successful applicant will be engaged in the evaluation and development of methods for RNA and transcriptomics testing and the analysis of that data. Strong candidates will have a record of academic achievement including a background or strong interest in biological science, and a relevant postgraduate degree. Direct experience of genomic bioinformatics and experience of working with large-scale genetic data are desirable. Skills in computing and bioinformatics, as well as the handling of large-scale data sets, and an ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment would be an advantage.

You will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in genetics or genomics.

The Human Genetics and Genomic Medicine theme is part of the Human Development and Health (HDH) Academic Unit, part of the Faculty of Medicine and located at Southampton University Hospital site. The appointee will benefit from interaction with the co-located Genomic Informatics group and other groups within HDH undertaking a range of transcriptomic and epigenetic studies in both humans and animal models. The applicant will join a team working in this field.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.

This position is full time fixed term until 31/03/2023.
