JUNIOR DEVELOPER (2 POSTS, 12-month contract)
POST LEVEL 9

In pursuit of the ideals of excellence and diversity, the University of Pretoria wishes to invite applications for the following vacancy.

The developer will be responsible for developing XR applications in a team, using a variety of technologies, for implementation in die Mining industry in South Africa. The developer will work in a team to both develop and design the application. The projects will aim to solve complex problems using XR technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop XR applications
    • Using current generation game engines for various platforms
    • Managing project integration with other team members
    • Completing assigned tasks within the time frame
    • Use project management software.
  • Implement XR applications
    • Deploy in a test environment.
    • Bug fixing and adjustment.
    • User and usability testing
  • Design of XR applications
    • Building 3D models
    • Building materials for 3D models
    • Optimization of 3D models
  • Expanding your own skill base
    • Develop new skills to solve problems in creative ways.
    • Reading up on new features for technology being used in the development.
    • Implementing new technologies and features in existing projects

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BSc CS or BIS Multimedia undergraduate degree or equivalent degree from Vega/Open window
  • 2-year development experience
  • 1-year 3D modelling and texturing experience

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Development process in a professional environment
  • Computer science and Multimedia knowledge
  • Game engine development
  • 3D design (modelling, texturing, rigging)
  • Mobile development
  • Effective member of a development team
  • Initiative when solving complex and unknown technology problem
  • Professionalism

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • BIS Multimedia Hons or MIS Multimedia
  • B Sc CS Hons
  • NQF 8 or higher from Vega/Open window
  • VR/AR development experience recommended.
  • Mobile development experience (Android)

The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
