Job Purpose

To deliver appropriate Library Services to staff and students studying at BPP’s learning centres, with a focus on law students.

To manage the efficient and effective delivery of a copyright information and guidance service to the staff and students.

Job Background

The post-holder can be based in any BPP centre but may need to travel on occasion to Law School centres.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in the delivery and development of library services and study skills teaching; customer services and the marketing and development of library services
  2. Ensure that library and information needs of academic disciplines are supported by appropriate resources, particularly Law.
  3. Help and advise staff and students in making effective use of printed and online information sources;
  4. Assist and liaise with library management staff to design and deliver inductions, face-to-face and online training programmes (small group sessions and lectures). Train other members of staff to be able to deliver the programmes where appropriate;
  5. Liaise with teaching, IT, administration and operations teams to ensure an optimal student experience;
  6. Work with the Acquisitions Librarian and Systems Librarian to coordinate and develop resources, including collection development and management, online information services, the online library and other initiatives;
  7. Work with and line manage the Law Librarian for Bristol;
  8. Develop and maintain an understanding of copyright law and licensing agreements;
  9. Develop policy and strategy in relation to copyright for the University;
  10. Liaise with staff and students so as to be aware of the copyright practices across campus and support and train them so that they are aware of copyright and can avoid copyright infringement

Candidate Criteria

  • Educated to at least graduate level with either a CILIP recognised professional qualification in librarianship or information science or is working towards this.
  • Post qualification or extensive experience of working in a library or similar customer service environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of copyright law and services and/or ability to develop expertise in this area.
  • Extensive IT user skills involving the use of a wide range of applications.
  • Experience of working with library materials to build knowledge and understanding of the collections and their use
  • Experience of developing and delivering information skills training sessions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legal research tools, texts and databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
  • Evidence of the ability to write formally
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate complex information.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and the ability to exercise initiative within the scope of Library policy.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS check
