Job description

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a multinational collaborative pharmacoepidemiology project between Queen’s University Belfast, the University of Southern Denmark, and collaborators from Norway, Sweden, the USA, and Canada to investigate psychotropic medications and glioma. They will join the Centre for Public Health research team, working alongside Dr. Blánaid Hicks in a program of research funded by Cancer Research UK.

Glioma causes significant morbidity and mortality worldwide with survival remaining extremely poor due to limited treatment options. This international multicentre observational study will use prescription and cancer-registry linked databases from the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and the USA, to investigate this cancer of unmet need. Projects will include drug utilization studies as well as the evaluation of psychotropic medication use and glioma risk and survival.

The successful candidate will join a dynamic team with extensive expertise in cancer pharmacoepidemiology. There may be opportunities to travel to collaborators in Europe. The post holder will gain skills in project management, analyses of electronic medical records and have responsibility for writing for publication.

The successful candidate must have:

• Have or about to obtain a relevant PhD in epidemiology, public health, pharmacy, applied statistics or related subjects that include a substantive quantitative data analysis component.
• At least 3 years’ research experience and skills relevant to this project e.g., database management, statistical analysis, working with large epidemiological datasets.
• Experience of using statistical packages such as STATA.

Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
