Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Earth Sciences.

This is a Post-doctoral Research role in which the person will use the Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) technique to detect coastal ground motions and slope instabilities.

The project forms part of the Platform for Atlantic Geohazards Risk Management (AGEO) initiative, which is a consortium of institutes in Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland and the UK aiming to establish several pilot citizen science observatories for monitoring of coastal geohazards. AGEO is funded by the European Union via the Interreg Atlantic Area programme of the European Regional Development Fund.

The primary research target of this project is to detect and monitor ground motions via Sentinel-1 SAR data at a set of urban and rural study areas on the European Atlantic coast (Lisbon, Madeira, Causeway Coast, Cliffs of Moher, Brittany). A secondary research task is to work with local project partners to elucidate causes and/or controls (e.g. hydrological, geological, geotechnical) on the observed InSAR signals and help partners to integrate InSAR data into their observatories.

The technical work will be supported by InSAR processing software and computational facilities at UCD. This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

Fixed Salary: €38,632 per annum
