Our values speak of collaboration, connectedness and innovative practice, underpinned by a passion for our academic disciplines and extensive partnerships with industry, professions and communities.

An excellent opportunity exists for an individual to join the teaching team on our internationally-recognised BA (Hons) Animation Production course. There may also be duties on our MA Animation Production course and BA (Hons) Visual Effects for Film and Television course.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual with a professional level of knowledge and creativity in drawing, visualisation and design in the context of contemporary animation production. The candidate will possess an ability to teach across different areas of the animation production process, including the ability to teach in the area of production design. This would also include observational drawing, which underpins our teaching of visual development for animation.

An understanding or experience of a professional production process, which might include making animated films, is important, as is some evidence of industry engagement and ability to prepare students for a professional career in animation. The professional-based skills and experience required for this role will include teaching two or more of the following:

  • character design
  • background and layout
  • concept work / visual development, including digital painting
  • storyboarding
  • life drawing / observational drawing
  • 2D animation, including experience in current digital practices, such as digital cut-outs
  • Stop-motion animation
  • CG animation, including pre-vis
  • VFX

You will have experience of teaching at degree level, taking responsibility for managing the effective learning of the students, including setting, supervising and assessing work. You will also be able to contribute to the development of the course curriculum and undertake a range of tutorial and pastoral responsibilities.

You should be able to work as part of a team, have excellent organisational and administrative skills and demonstrate a commitment to a student-centred approach to teaching and learning.

The successful candidate will be research active and hold a PhD in a relevant subject area, or be able to demonstrate equivalent research experience, and should also hold a teaching qualification and Higher Education Academy (HEA) Fellowship Membership. Experience of professional practice within animation or related industries is also important.
