University of Nottingham Ningbo China (UNNC) invites applications for the Research Centre for Life Science and Healthcare, part of Nottingham Ningbo China Beacons of Excellence Research and Innovation Institute (CBI). This is an exciting opportunity to participate in Beacons of Excellence global research initiative by The University of Nottingham, spearhead research strategy development and join a world class team from the ground up at a new research institution strongly supported by UNNC and the Ningbo government, as well as take advantage of the opportunities in collaborations between industry and academia, and funding agencies in China offered by this great platform.

Your Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Head of Research Center for Life Science and Healthcare, the role holder is to support and promote the CBI and the Research Centre for Life Science and Healthcare’s national and international reputation for excellence in research.

The incumbent will be tasked with the following responsibilities:

  • Research Strategy Development. Work with the Head of the Research Centre to develop and communicate a clear vision of the Centre’s research strategic direction and strategic plans within the area of responsibility; Serve as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) on research initiatives to plan and carry out original, high-level individual and collaborative research within CBI;
  • Collaboration with External Stakeholders: Identify and foster research and collaborative partnerships with other research institutions, local government or other external bodies;
  • Leadership & Team Management: Manage the research team in accordance with delegated responsibility from the Head of the Research Centre; setting appropriate goals and accountabilities; Be accountable to the Head of the Research Centre for all aspects of the performance and running of the research team; 
  • Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.

About You

  • You should have PhD, or equivalent supported by extensive and high level research and teaching experience in relevant area;
  • You should have high international recognition of research achievement in Life Science and Healthcare or other relevant areas;
  • You should have established and widely recognised excellence and reputation in the Life Science and Healthcare specialist subject area amongst peers in HE sector;
  • You should have proven ability to establish, lead, motivate, develop and manage the performance of a research team;
  • You should have previous experience and success in raising capital in support of new business projects, management of investment funds, grants and contracts;
  • You should have previous success in transferring research results to commercial professional or other practical uses;
  • You should have extensive publication track record.

About CBI and UNNC

Nottingham Ningbo China Beacons of Excellence Research and Innovation Institute (CBI) is an exciting new collaboration between the city of Ningbo and UNNC, designed to establish multi-disciplinary, international, first-class research teams in key areas related to the economic development needs of Ningbo. The Institute primarily addresses prominent issues in three areas – Intelligent Manufacturing, Green Chemicals and Energy, Life Sciences and Healthcare, all of which are closely connected with local development goals. Each of the three areas will have a dedicated research centre hosting leading scholars and researchers.

Your Remuneration, Benefits and Support

Successful candidate will be offered a five-year contract initially that may be extended by mutual agreement.
