The Division of Arts and Humanities at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications for Adjunct Faculty positions in Oud Performance. Responsibilities may include teaching group Oud classes (beginner and intermediate), individual lessons, and/or ensembles. The typical time commitment is between 4 and 8 hours of classroom time per week. The position will begin in late Spring 2021.

In addition to Oud, applicant specializations may include other instruments of Arab musical traditions, including Qanun, Nay, Violin, and Voice, as well as maqam theory and solfege.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • UAE citizen or UAE residence visa holder.
  • Eligible for an NOC letter from current employer/sponsor (if applicable) permitting the candidate to teach at NYUAD.
  • An accomplished professional in Oud performance and Arab musical traditions.
  • Experienced as a teacher of Oud performance.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English.

Desired Qualifications

We welcome candidates with additional expertise in voice or other Arab musical instruments, or with research interests that complement their performance skills.

Demonstrated excellence at teaching a diverse population of students.

Bachelor’s degree in Music or equivalent professional experience required; Master’s or Doctoral degree preferred.

The priority deadline for full consideration is May 1, 2021, but applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Shortlisted candidates are expected to interview in Spring 2021. We anticipate that successful candidates can start the appointment and relocate to Abu Dhabi in the academic year 2021-2022.
