Job Description

The Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore (NUS), intends to recruit a law graduate who is interested in legal research related to insurance law. The research project will look into core insurance doctrines which are being or will be affected by disruptive digital technologies (with particular focus on the impact of Artificial Intelligence in the local insurance industry). Also to be considered in the research project is the evolution of core insurance doctrines in England while adapting them to local commercial considerations and regulatory frameworks. How such developments will drive future legal policy in Singapore forms the overarching theme of the research project.

The candidate will work closely with Associate Professor Yeo Hwee Ying towards the publication of a book and articles relating to Insurance Law. Applications are invited from suitable candidates who have preferably completed an undergraduate insurance module at a reputable university and who additionally have some understanding of Artificial Intelligence. This opportunity will allow the candidate to hone his or her legal research skills which will subsequently prove to be important for a successful legal career in the future.

Requirement

The principal selection criterion will be the applicant’s excellence for research and writing. The applicant should be exceptionally organised with an eye for detail. A strong command of the English language (both oral and written) is absolutely essential. The academic qualifications required of the applicant are as follows:

(a) for appointment as Research Assistant, the applicant should have graduated with LLB (Hons), preferably with at least a good Second-Class Upper Honours (or equivalent)
(b) for appointment as Research Associate, the applicant should have both LLM and LLB (Hons) degrees

(c) sample of original legal writing solely authored by you (for example, any research assignment completed during your university studies or excerpt of any legal analysis from your work experience with all confidential details redacted).
