Research Assistant Professor in Big Data, Machine Learning or AI / Traditional Chinese Medicine / Healthy Aging or Gerontology / Clinical or Rehabilitation Informatics / Health Promotion and Wellness / Neuro-rehabilitation / Health or Rehabilitation Policy (four posts) (Ref. 21053103)

The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences offers teaching programmes from entry level BSc (Hons) for Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy to PhD.  There are over 60 faculty members in the disciplines of Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Sciences in the Department.  The main translational research programmes in the Department are complementary and integrative health in the East-West context, translational neuroscience and rehabilitation: sensori-motor systems, translational neuroscience and rehabilitation: cognitive-affective systems, musculoskeletal and sport rehabilitation and healthy aging.   It also operates a Rehabilitation Clinic which is the hub for clinical teaching and consultancy services to the community.  The Department puts equal emphases on basic, applied and clinical research relevant to the theory and technology development in rehabilitation.  Besides, the Department has taken the lead in incorporating Chinese therapeutics into the academic curricula which is unique worldwide.  The vision and passion of the Department is “Touching Lives, Making An Impact”.   For more information about the Department, please visit the website at http://www.rs.polyu.edu.hk/.

Duties

The appointees will be required to:

a. conduct research as the main duty and actively pursue external research grants, such as General Research Fund, as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator;

b. provide quality teaching at undergraduate or postgraduate level;

c. contribute to departmental service; and

d. perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department or his delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

a. have a doctoral degree in disciplines related to Big Data, Machine Learning or AI, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Healthy Aging or Gerontology, Clinical or Rehabilitation Informatics, Public Health or Health Promotion and Wellness, Neuro-rehabilitation, Tissue Healing, Sports Science and Musculoskeletal Health, Exercise Physiology and Biomechanics, Epidemiology, Health or Rehabilitation Policy;

b. have demonstrated promise of a high level of creative ability in research and teaching in some subdivisions of his/her field;

c. be able to demonstrate effective classroom teaching skills; and

d. be highly proficient in written and spoken English.

Remuneration and Conditions of Service

A highly competitive package including a medical benefits plan and a gratuity payable upon completion of the term which is normally for three years initially, with possibility of extension for another three years.  Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
