About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Statistics to join leading experts at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, within the Faculty of Science. We are one of the largest mathematical sciences schools in Australia, and the University of Sydney is the only Australian university to have received the highest rating of 5 out of 5 for research in the mathematical sciences in every Australian Research Council Excellence in Research for Australia assessment to date.

As a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Statistics you will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning design, delivery, and evaluation while continuing to build your research contribution, expertise and impact. We are welcoming applicants from different research backgrounds who can bring their own research agenda, complementing the Schools' current research foci, whilst benefiting from our supportive community of world-class mathematicians and statisticians. We invite applicants with research strengths in all areas of Statistics, including those working in theoretical statistic, probability theory, statistical machine learning, mathematical statistics, stochastic processes, computational statistics, bioninformatics, environmental statistics, and other areas of applied statistics.

About you

  • a PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, or related area.
  • evidence of independent research ability and potential in an area of Statistics
  • evidence of ability, versatility and commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching in Statistics or Data Science.
  • experience supervising research students
  • a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry, and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities
  • a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector

For appointment at Level C, we would like to see evidence of:

  • experience supervising students at postgraduate level
  • experience lecturing statistics
  • significant contribution to research and practice in the discipline, compatible with Senior Lecturer standards at The University of Sydney.
