Role Description

Research Assistant (if close to completing PhD) or Research Fellow (if PhD obtained) in Infrastructure Governance and Financing

This is an exciting opportunity to secure a post with significant impact potential in both academia and industry. The role is focused on multiple utility sectors and we therefore welcome candidates from a range of backgrounds and disciplines. Applicants with recent experience in academia, industry, or government could all have suitable skill sets and understandings. A keen intellect and the ability to deliver quality outputs is needed rather than a degree in a particular field. Working closely with the wider network of UKCRIC research teams and industry partners, the successful candidate will be expected to both refine a research agenda for the project outlined above and deliver against it. Outputs from the research should provide novel insights and justifiable proposals for actionable interventions. You will be expected to meet tight delivery deadlines with reporting requirements to multiple clients.

About You

You will have a PhD (or close to completion) on a topic of relevance to infrastructure ownership, governance, business models or financing and be able to demonstrate a promising track-record of early achievements appropriate to your research area and career stage including significant publications (as main author) in leading international peer-reviewed journals. You will be expected to develop and build long term partnerships with innovators, industry, NGOs research funders and professional bodies. Your experience should have provided you with a close understanding of the contemporary challenges facing the infrastructure and utilities sector and practical knowledge of the design and implementation of relevant interventions.

Our Values

Our shared, stated values help to define who we are and underpin everything we do: Ambition; Impact; Respect; and Community. Find out more here. We aim to create and maintain a culture in which everyone can work and study together and realise their full potential.

Diversity and Inclusion

Our equal opportunities and diversity monitoring have shown that women and minority ethnic groups are currently underrepresented within the university and so we actively encourage applications from eligible candidates from these groups.

To further demonstrate our commitment to progressing gender diversity in STEM, we are members of WES & Working Families, and sponsors of International Women in Engineering Day.

Flexible Working

We actively consider flexible working options such as part-time, compressed or flexible hours and/or an element of homeworking and commit to exploring the possibilities for each role. Find out more here.
