Research Director (Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre Limited)

Applications are invited for appointment as Research Director in the Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre (Ref: ABIC-1002) to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement.

Advanced Biomedical Instrumentation Centre is collaborative effort coordinated by the University of Hong Kong (HKU) to be established at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) undertaking R&D projects. The aim of the collaborative centre is to develop completely new and disruptive biomedical instrumentation that will meet the growing needs in medicine and contribute sustainably to human health.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Engineering or a closely related field, with at least 5 years of relevant work experience. They should have excellent project management skills; the ability to work independently and in a team; a strong sense of responsibility and self-motivation; fluency in written and spoken English and Chinese; and good coordination, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills. Experience in management and development of large-scale research projects and/or in commercialization of technologies is highly preferred.

The appointee will play a key role in supporting the establishment and management of a new research centre on the development of advanced biomedical instrumentation. He/she will work closely with internal and external stakeholders; coordinate multiple research projects in collaboration with different parties; prepare documents such as project plans and reports; work on research development and commercialization initiatives; and perform other duties as assigned. He/She may be required to work outside normal office hours and on weekends.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and Centre’s contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.
