Founded in 1956, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) aims to be a leading research-led liberal arts University in Asia for the world delivering academic excellence in a caring, creative and global culture. HKBU has a student population of around 11,000 and a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes up to the doctoral level. Currently the University has an academic and teaching staff strength of about 1,000. Beyond Hong Kong, the University has a joint campus with Beijing Normal University running a unique liberal arts college in Zhuhai, the United International College, as well as research centres in other parts of China.

OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS

With the mission to provide best student experience for the achievement of the graduate attributes, the Office of Student Affairs promotes the development of character, leadership, social and psychological competencies of students, through providing proficient student services, cultivating an active learning campus environment, and development and implementation of the co-curriculum as an integral part of student learning.

The University is looking for a visionary, strategic, dynamic and innovative leader to assume the position of Director of Student Affairs.

Director of Student Affairs (PR0177/20-21)

The appointee assumes a leadership role in the formulation and implementation of policies and strategic plans in student support, integration of students of different backgrounds, co-curriculum, including residential education, for the whole University. The appointee will act as the major communication channel between the University and students and engage students in University’s consultation and policy-formulation process. He/She will advise the senior management team on all student matters, work closely with various academic departments and administrative offices. The appointee will promote the recognition of HKBU students both inside and outside of Hong Kong and mobilize community resources for the development of students. He/She also oversees the administration and leads and supervises a team of professional staff in the Office of Student Affairs.

The successful candidate should have good academic and professional qualifications, preferably at a postgraduate degree level. He/She should have extensive senior management experience, substantial knowledge of and experiences in working with university students for their development, strong leadership with the ability to handle crises and complex issues tactfully in a fast-changing environment, as well as a wide community network. The appointee should demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and negotiation skills, and be highly proficient in both written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua).

Initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of three years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.
