Research Fellow, Marine Microbiology

The Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE) is a unique interdisciplinary Research Centre of Excellence (RCE), funded by National Research Foundation, Singapore Ministry of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS). Hosted by NTU in partnership with NUS, SCELSE is linking new insights from the life sciences with expertise from the emerging technologies in engineering and natural sciences to understand, harness and control microbial biofilm communities and microbiomes.

Responsibilities :

  • To work with the SCELSE team on ongoing marine host-pathogen research projects
  • To assist with preparation and writing of:
    • Manuscripts for publications in peer-reviewed journals
    • Research grants for submission to local and international grant funding bodies (i.e., MOE, NRF etc.)
    • Interval and final reports for research grants.
  • To perform other related duties, incidental to the work described herein.

Requirements

  • A doctoral degree in a relevant subject area (e.g., marine microbiology, bioinformatics, host-pathogen systems), or equivalent obtained by the time of the job commencement
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English
  • Strong research skills and experience in marine microbiology, particularly in genomics and bioinformatic analysis
  • Experience in research involving marine pathogens (e.g., Vibrios or Roseobacters), particularly identification of virulence factors and pathways.
  • Experience in publishing in peer-reviewed international journals.
  • Highly organised and able to work effectively under pressure, use independent judgement, and produce a high-quality work product within tight time constraints.
  • Able to work independently and with international teams.
