About the opportunity

The School of Biomedical Sciences is seeking a Lecturer to enhance our teaching and research activities. The Lecturer teaches across our undergraduate and post-graduate degrees, with a particular focus on physiology teaching, and to establish an active research program. In addition, we expect active involvement in the administrative management of the School and to make positive contributions that align with the values of the School and University.

The role will work individually and as a team to design and deliver teaching material to a high standard and informed by the best pedagogical practice. The School teaches into science, professional and medical degree programs as well as post-graduate and Honours degrees. The Lecturer will teach in all aspects of physiology in the junior years and professional programs and teach specialist subjects in-depth in senior courses. In addition, the School is revising its teaching programs and curriculum to create engaging content that meets the need of students now and into the future. This position will play a full and active role across these teaching activities and to contribute to teaching innovation.

The School has recently restructured to create research themes. These include neuroscience, chronic diseases, education innovation, infection immunity & inflammation, molecular bioscience, musculoskeletal science, biomedical informatics and digital health. The successful candidate is expected to establish a research program within one of these themes.

  • has a PhD in a related field
  • has proven ability, commitment and passion for engaging in scholarly activities and can capitalise on such, in order to create innovative pedagogical practices
  • is an emerging national leader within your discipline, based on the quality and impact of your research and your expertise. Evidence might include invitations to speak at conferences, invitations to write review articles and awards from learned societies.
  • demonstrates high-quality original research outputs as senior author or as the key member of a collaborative team. Outputs might include high quality publications in peer reviewed journals, patents and successful outcomes in clinical or applied research.
  • demonstrates independent contributions to teaching in a tertiary environment, that might include lectures, practical classes and on-line activities.
  • evidence of the high quality of teaching contributions, such as student outcomes, student feedback and peer review.
  • has proven ability in mentoring and leadership of junior scientists.
  • has proven evidence of contributions to the management of an institution, learned society or journal. These might include active participation on committees, organisation of symposia and meetings and peer review for journals.
  • Is developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
