The post may attract professorial status for suitably qualified applicants.

Set in the heart of a beautiful, safe and friendly city, the University of Lincoln is a forward-thinking, ambitious institution with high aspirations and a supportive, caring ethos. Named as Modern University of the Year in The Times and Sunday Times, Good University Guide 2021, our core mission is to combine outstanding, high-impact research and professional practice with a superb student experience and the highest quality civic engagement.

We are looking for a collegiate, forward-thinking and pragmatic Head to lead and manage our School of History & Heritage though its next exciting phase of development. You will motivate, support and work in partnership with staff and students in developing the School’s reputation, and consolidating and enhancing its activities across teaching, research, consultancy and external engagement. Reporting to the PVC / Head of College of Arts, you will set a clear course of direction for the School, contribute to the management of the College, and have the opportunity for involvement in University-wide initiatives.

You will be a successful, established academic whose leadership skills and strategic vision will be complemented by a strong track record in delivering projects. Specialising in one of the disciplinary areas covered by the School, you will be an outstanding teacher, researcher and communicator. You will have experience of external income generation, and ideally of working across disciplines and institutions. With past experience of major university, school or departmental leadership roles, you will be committed to building a diverse, inclusive academic community, and taking forward the school’s work in race and ethnicity equality.

Taking on a permanent role in the School, you will serve as Head of School for 5 years, with the possibility of extension subject to mutual agreement.

Application procedure:

Using the 'Apply Online' button below, please submit a CV and 2-page covering letter on what appeals to you about the role, your suitability for it, and what you would aim to achieve. This may include references to experience gained in employment outside academia. Please ensure you detail your education, work experience, and any career breaks such as time out to care for dependants on your application form.

If you are seeking a Chair as part of this appointment, please make this clear in your covering letter, and state clearly your plans to develop your own research over the next five years, including where you would seek funding.

If you would like an informal conversation about this role, please contact Professor Abigail Woods: awoods@lincoln.ac.uk
