LECTURER IN ECOLOGY
Permanent
Aberdeen Campus
£33,692 - £39,070 per annum
Ref: ANF/RLU/045/21
SRUC is unique in Scotland and one of the largest organisations of its kind in Europe. Our ambitious and exciting vision is to work at local, national and international levels, leading innovation and sustainable development in agriculture and rural sectors.
We are looking for an ecologist with a strong emphasis on biodiversity conservation who is able to integrate with colleagues across our existing teaching and research strengths. Candidates should have strengths in fieldwork, species identification skills and data analysis and a knowledge of the importance of applying fundamental ecology for advancing conservation science (specific research interests and skills may include, but not limited to, botany/plant ecology, agroecology and wildlife conservation policy). Additionally, knowledge of new developments in interpreting large ecological data sets, molecular data and new technologies in wildlife management would be advantageous, as well as fostering strong links with conservation practitioners.
The successful candidate will be required to teach on and further develop the UG and PG Wildlife and Conservation Management portfolio. Within this programme across SRUC, there is an emphasis on preparing students for careers in conservation, ecosystem services and fostering the essential fieldwork skills needed by practicing conservation managers.
The successful applicant will also ideally have a track record of research in a related field. SRUC is seeking a closer alignment of its research and education activities and it is hoped that the successful applicant will contribute to world class research carried out within SRUC on terms of grant income and publication output. You will grasp the opportunity to foster cross-disciplinary collaborations and ambitions that will build on current strengths within the department, and across the institution.
Further details on the requirements of this role can be found in the Job Particulars document which you must read before applying for this role.
