Job Details

Applications are invited for a 12-month post of a Post doctoral Research Fellow Level 2 within UCD School of Chemical & Bioprocess Engineering

This project is on the development and application of molecular-resolution methods in separations engineering. Several projects are of interest to Prof. English's research group under this important theme, embracing both theoretical and experimental approaches. Two prominent examples lie in the decarbonisation of (i.e., CO2 removal from) raw-gas streams and also in the separation and segregation of proteins (e.g., protein deagglomeration) - where we leverage and manipulate molecular phenomena to separate and segregate these molecules and species. Building on Prof. English's patented research, the common theme of applying external electric fields to systems to bring about these molecular-separation phenomena will be explored and advanced in this research appointment at UCD. Using this technology, the PD fellow will apply experimental and/or modelling/theory/simulation techniques to elucidate, prototype and scale up these promising field-enhanced molecular-separation approaches.

This is an advanced research focused role, building on your prior experience as a post-doctoral fellow, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to develop new or advanced research skills and competences, on the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications and scholarly dissemination, the development of funding proposals, and the supervision and mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:

- Molecular-separations engineering

- External-field enhanced approaches for molecular separation
