About the position

We have a vacancy for a postdoctoral position within Food Science at Department of Biotechnology and Food Science, one of eight departments in the Faculty of Natural Sciences. The position is a part of the project OMEGA: fish Oil MicroEncapsulation Generating fortified food products for improved human health funded by the Research Council of Norway. The postdoctoral project's overall aim is to gain knowledge about fortification of food to increase the nutritional value and to increase knowledge on consumers’ acceptance of fortified products.

Together with NTNU, the project partners are SINTEF Industry, SINTEF Ocean, Høgskolen på Vestlandet (Western Norway University of Applied Sciences) and DTU (Technical University of Denmark). The project also collaborates with companies from food and ingredient industries.  

The position reports to Associate Professor Eva Falch.

Duties of the position

  • The candidate is expected to take part in the project work actively
  • The candidate will be specifically responsible for the work package that includes food technology and fortification of food with microencapsulated oils and analysis of sensory characteristics and consumers’ preferences.
  • The candidate is expected to actively disseminate results within the project, the scientific community, and to the society overall
  • The candidate should take an active part in the Food Science research group at the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science

Required selection criteria

A postdoctoral research fellowship is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree in Food technology, Food Engineering, Food Science, or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree.

If, for any reason, you have taken a career break or have had an atypical career and wish to disclose this in your application, the selection committee will take this into account, recognizing that the quantity of your research may be reduced as a result.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

  • Candidates with experience from practical laboratory work relevant to the given project and/or specific analytical skills which fit the projects will be preferred
  • Competence within food technology, sensory science, consumer science, qualitative analysis, food fortification and quality analysis is beneficial
  • Applicants should have good communication skills and be fluent in English, both orally and in writing

We offer

Salary and conditions

The employment period is 2 years.

Postdoctoral candidates are placed in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 545 300 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

The position is subject to external funding.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution daily.
