COLLEGE LECTURESHIP AND FELLOWSHIP IN LAW

Applications are invited from suitably qualified applicants for a four year fixed term College Lectureship in Law, associated with a Fellowship of Christ’s College.

The Lectureship is intended to provide a valuable development opportunity for a four year fixed term to an individual at the beginning of their academic career to allow them to build teaching skills, a publication record and other academic activity with a view to obtaining a University appointment in Cambridge or elsewhere. The post is tenable from 1 September 2021 to 31 August 2025 or for a similar period with dates to be agreed and is not renewable or extendable.

The successful candidate will be expected to reside in Cambridge and will be elected to a Fellowship of the College.  They will be expected to undertake at least eight hours of small-group teaching per week for the College during Full Term (equivalent to 160 hours per academic year), to act as Director of Studies in Law when required, to engage in research and publication, and to undertake other College offices or duties appropriate to an early-career appointment if asked to do so. Candidates should normally be able to teach at least three subjects forming part of the Law Tripos at the University of Cambridge. Preference may be given to candidates who are able to offer teaching in at least two of the following subjects: Land Law, Law of Torts, Criminal Law, Civil (Roman) Law. The Fellow may, at their discretion, give additional College teaching (beyond 160 hours per annum) which would be remunerated at the normal hourly rates for College supervision.

The stipend will be equivalent to point 41 of the Cambridge University scale (currently £32,816).  The Fellow will be a member of the College’s Governing Body and will be expected to sit on a number of College committees.  The privileges of a Fellowship include seven free meals per week, the possibility of limited financial support for research expenses, a study room for teaching and other academic purposes, and possibly single occupancy residential accommodation in College.  The stipend is subject to a reduction in the Fellow chooses to reside in College.

Further particulars are available at www.christs.cam.ac.uk/vacancies. Letters of application (there are no forms) should be sent to masters-assistant@christs.cam.ac.uk to arrive no later than noon on Friday 14th May 2021, including a curriculum vitae with details of qualifications, publications and experience; an indication of whether a work visa would be required in order to take up the post; and the names and addresses of two persons who have agreed to act as academic referees. Candidates must arrange for their referees to send their reference directly to masters-assistant@christs.cam.ac.uk so that references are received by the closing date of noon on Friday 14th May 2021. Short-listed candidates may be asked for copies of written work and may be invited for interviews expected to be held on or around Thursday 27th May 2021.
