At TU Dresden, Faculty of Business and Economics the Chair of Business Management, esp. Sustainability Management and Environmental Accounting (Prof. Dr. Edeltraud Günther) as part of the project "Platform for climate-conform action at local and district level in low mountain regions" in the frame of the initiative "Regional Information on Climate Action" (RegIKlim), funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), offers in cooperation with the United Nations University Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources (UNU-FLORES), subject to the availability of resources, starting as soon as possible, a position as

Research Associate / PhD Student  
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according 
to salary group E 13 TV-L)

with 50 % of the fulltime weekly hours until April 30th, 2024. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e. g. PhD).

Tasks:  
The successful PhD candidate will be given the opportunity to conduct research work on the topic of "Resource Nexus Perspective on Climate Resilient Agri-Food and Forestry System" under the guidance of the PhD supervisors at both Technische Universitaet Dresden and UNU-FLORES. This research aims to provide knowledge about the challenges imposed and exacerbated by climate change that can be used to derive practical solutions to increase the resilience of the agri-food and forestry system. At the operational level, diverse sources of information are expected to be used, including global database and remote-sensed data. Analytical methods and nexus assessment approach will be explored to evaluate the impacts of climate change scenarios on the agri-food and forestry system in the Global South. It is expected that tools will be developed to facilitate decision-making to adapt to climate change and reduce risks. The ecological and economic perspectives of Resource Nexus in climate adaptation may cover but not limited to water and food security, biodiversity conservation, and support livelihoods on land. As part of this position, the successful candidate shall define the research questions within the given thematic area; undertake data mining, collection, and analyses as well as perform model-based assessment; write and publish papers in peer-reviewed journals; organise activities such as workshops that are related to the research project; contribute to teaching activities, especially e-learning and capacity development. The opportunity to obtain a PhD in collaboration with UNU-FLORES in sustainability assessment will be supported by the Chair of Business Management, esp. Sustainability Management and Environmental Accounting.

Requirements: 
Excellent university degree (Diplom, Master) at a grade equivalent to a 2.5, or higher, in the German scale in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Economy, Agriculture, Forestry, Geography, or related fields; excellent skills in data mining, handling of a large amount of data and meta-analyses; excellent GIS application and analysis skills with proven experience in working with remote sensing information and modelling tools relevant to the research topic; independent and flexible working methods, willingness for interdisciplinary teamwork; analytical approach; excellent English speaking and writing skills (min IELTS level 7.0 or equivalent, proof of creating previous scientific work in English); excellent writing style, good rhetoric, and didactic skills; enjoy teaching; demonstrate social competences. Proficient expertise in R or Python programming language would be highly advantageous.
