Located in one of the most beautiful regions of the UK, between the Snowdonia National Park and Anglesey, Bangor University has occupied a central role in the educational provision of the area since its foundation in 1884. With approximately 11,000 students and 2,000 staff, the university offers a wide range of academic provision grouped in three Colleges. Based in the College of Arts, Humanities and Business, the newly created School of Languages, Literatures and Cultures brings together a number of historic academic strengths of the university in Welsh Culture, Literature and Creative Writing; English Literature and Creative Writing; Modern Languages; Linguistics, Bilingualism and Multilingualism; Music, Drama and Performance; and Media, Journalism and Film Studies. The amalgamation of these disciplines offers us an opportunity to drive a real enhancement in the quality and standards of all teaching, learning and research activities, creating interdependencies across the offer and with a keen focus on digital humanities.  The post will be focussed on change management and growth and have a high profile internally and externally as you lead on developing and raising the School’s academic offer and external profile.

Comfortable in an academic leadership role you will be an assured, persuasive and confident communicator, someone who seeks innovative solutions, with imagination and creativity, inspiring trust and respect across the institution and with our partners. You will have a track record of academic achievement in teaching and research in a relevant discipline to be credible at professorial level and combine this with evidence of effective leadership and change management, particularly in relation to growth and academic redesign.
