The Australian National University's new Institute for Water Futures (IWF) and the School of Cybernetics are seeking an exceptional team member to support the design and delivery of innovative, interdisciplinary, outwardly focused programs blending education, research and engagement in the area of water futures. We are looking for candidates with well-honed collaboration, communication, creative, conceptual and analytical skills, as well as a passion for water in relation to future technologies, environments and societies. Our ideal candidate will have the confidence and ability to help establish the cybernetics components of the IWF, develop new research to drive innovative external educational offerings, and collaborate across the School of Cybernetics, the Institute for Water Futures and with external industry, government and community partners.
The Australian National University (ANU) made a major and on-going investment in water research through its National Institutes Grant to establish the Institute for Water Futures (IWF). The IWF brings together researchers from across sciences, social sciences, humanities, engineering and public policy within the ANU and has established research partnerships with state and federal water agencies, such as Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA), and other research organisations. The IWF mission is to support sustainable water futures and to identify transformative, innovative and robust strategies to resolve the water challenges of today and tomorrow.
This position is located in the new School of Cybernetics, within the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS).

The School of Cybernetics is a new organisation building upon the foundational work of the 3A Institute under the leadership of Distinguished Professor Genevieve Bell. Our mission is to create a new branch of engineering to help take AI-enabled cyber-physical systems safely, sustainably and responsibly to scale.
The School has four focus areas: the 3A Institute, Strategy, Systems and Design. Each of these areas are establishing programs that blend education, research and engagement to create a new generation of practitioners who are custom-fit for the middle of the 21st century.
This is not a typical academic position. Across the Institute for Water Futures and the School of Cybernetics, we are looking for a broad range of innovators, practitioners and professionals, from all kinds of industries, to work with us to create something new. We are transcending disciplinary boundaries, teaming up brilliant people from different backgrounds who can work collaboratively and creatively to imagine and build safe, sustainable and responsible water futures.
This position is a 3-year fixed-term appointment to contribute to the work program of the Institute for Water Futures and collaboratively designing, driving and sustaining a program of strategic activities that will launch the new School of Cybernetics.
