SCHOOL OF OPTOMETRY

Professor in Optometry (Ref. 21032605)

The School of Optometry is one of five academic units in the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences.  The School conducts the 5-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Optometry which is a registrable qualification with the Hong Kong Government.   It also hosts the Centre for Myopia Research.   Research is vibrant in the areas of Myopia and Eye Growth, Ocular Drug Discovery and Delivery, Vision Enhancement, Tear Film and Ocular Surface as well as Advanced Optometric Technology. Duties

The appointee will be required to:

(a) provide leadership in all aspects of academic activities, including teaching, research and services in the School;

(b) teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervise student projects and theses;

(c) contribute to the development and enhancement of teaching and learning;

(d) secure external competitive research grants, conduct academic research, publish in peer-reviewed journals;

(e) carry out academic and administrative duties as required; and

(f) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or his/her delegates. 

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

(a) a PhD degree in Optometry or relevant disciplines, preferably specializing in Myopia, Ageing Eye and Visual Neuroscience;

(b) substantial university teaching experience and an excellent portfolio of teaching in respective areas;

(c) substantial experience in academic programme planning, management and curriculum development;

(d) relevant experience in e-learning and blended learning strategies in teaching and scholarship;

(e) excellent records of publications in internationally recognized journals and successful bidding of external competitive research grants; and

(f) extensive local and international connections in research and professional capacities.

Preference will be given to those with a strong track record in Myopia, Ageing Eye and Visual Neuroscience, the potential to publish in high quality scholarly journals and a good teaching record.
