Research Assistants at Department of Marine Technology.

About the position

We have vacancies for two Research Assistants at Department of Marine Technology. Both are 100% positions for a duration of up to 18 months.

We are seeking enthusiastic digital entrepreneurs with background in marine technology, or other relevant study program as computer science or engineering cybernetics, to help developing digital learning environments and teaching materials for the future. New digital platforms and technical solutions for interactive learning represent opportunities for improved and more dynamic teaching and learning environments. As highlighted in NTNU’s strategy project “Technology Studies for the Future”, NTNU’s engineering education should promote building of high-level digital competence.  

The positions will play an important role in developing new digital learning environments and teaching material for the marine technology string of courses - “marin-strengen”, and to develop, implement and test the digital teaching infrastructure in the study program. In particular, the work will focus on facilitating use of JupyterHub and Jupyter Notebooks – and similar interactive platforms, for learning in computationally oriented courses.

The candidates must be able to work both independently and as members of a team, collaborating with scientific and technical staff in the marine technology string of courses. There shall be time to pursue own research projects, giving the right candidate a possibility to prepare for a PhD-position later.

The appointed candidates will report to the department’s research group leaders.

Duties of the position

  • Development of digital learning environments, in close collaboration with the Digital Maritime research group and the Head of the Marine Technology Study Program
  • Development of digital learning material in a few selected courses, in close collaboration with course responsible and teaching assistants

Required selection criteria

The position as Research Assistant should give you the opportunity to gain insight into scientific or artistic work and method. The assignments are at an academic level and must consist of scientific or artistic assistance.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

  • The candidate should have a master’s degree in marine technology or from other relevant study programs
  • Good programming skills in Python
  • Good written and oral skills in English as well as in Norwegian

Preferred selection criteria

  • Experience from work as teaching assistant or similar

  • Good cooperating skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Systematic

Salary and conditions

The position is remunerated in 1020. Employment is for a period of up to 18 months, as agreed with the candidate.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.
