The Department of Communication of the Faculty of Social Sciences invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Communication. We are looking for applicants in journalism, specifically in English news writing, reporting, and editing. A track record of high quality research and publication through internationally respected outlets or demonstrated ability is a must. Qualifications and willingness to teach the following courses are expected: English News Writing; English News Editing; Advanced News Writing and Reporting in English; and Workshop: English Publication. Additional courses may be assigned to match the teaching needs of the department, faculty, and university.

The Department of Communication currently offers broad-based curricula leading to Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees covering various areas of communication studies (communication theory, intercultural communication, organizational communication,  communication skills); vocationally-oriented public communication (public relations, advertising, event planning); media studies and journalism (journalism writing and publication, mass media, new media, digital culture); cultural studies (cultural and critical theory, cinema, popular culture); public speaking; and creative media (video production, photography, animation). Qualifications
Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field. Candidates for Assistant Professorship must have a demonstrable capacity to conduct research and publish through internationally respected channels, ideally SSCI journals. Professional experience in news media is highly desirable. While candidates must be fluent in English, ability to speak Chinese is a plus.

The selected candidate may assume duty as early as January 2022.

Remuneration
A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP828,100 (approximately USD102,230) will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% - 7% after various discretionary exemptions.
