Applications are invited for appointments as Professor/Associate Professor on tenure terms and Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Philosophy in the School of Humanities (Philosophy) (2 posts) (Ref.: 503287), to commence on August 1, 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.  Appointments as Assistant Professor will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in philosophy. The positions are open to all areas of specialization, but applicants with competence in (a) non-Western philosophy or (b) social, moral or political philosophy are strongly preferred.

The appointees are expected to develop a vigorous, independent research programme, to excel in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and to handle the usual non-teaching duties. Total teaching load will be three to four courses per year for each position, including introductory first-year courses. Information about the Department can be obtained at http://philosophy.hku.hk. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
