About the position

A postdoctoral fellowship is available at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at NTNU Norwegian University of Science and Technology. We are seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to join our team developing novel sustainable solar cell materials. The position is focused on using pulsed laser deposition, epitaxy and doping to engineer material properties.

The available position is affiliated with the Functional Materials and Materials Chemistry research group (FACET) (https://www.ntnu.edu/ima/research/facet), Department of Materials Science and Engineering, NTNU Norwegian University for Science and Technology. The position is part of the research center for Sustainable Solar Cell Technology, SUSOLTECH (https://www.susoltech.no). 

Research activities in the Department cover functional materials and materials chemistry, nanomaterials, ceramics, electrochemical energy technology, corrosion, physical metallurgy, and metallurgical and electrochemical process engineering.

Duties of the position

The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in building up the Pulsed Laser Deposition expertise in FACET research group 

  • Develop and expand the capabilities of the Pulsed Laser Deposition Lab
  • Be a leading participant in the Pulsed Laser Deposition group, with focus on creating synergetic effects by collaboration within different projects
  • Execute a research program in novel oxide based solar cells materials
  • Take part in teaching of courses in functional materials at Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Teaching duties correspond to 1 year.
  • Stimulate collaboration and exchange of ideas within SuSolTech

Required selection criteria

A postdoctoral research fellowships is a qualification position in which the main objective is qualification for work in academic positions. You must have completed a Norwegian doctoral degree in materials science, materials chemistry or solid-state physics or corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognized as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree is required.

If, for any reason, you have taken a career break or have had an atypical career and wish to disclose this in your application, the selection committee will take this into account, recognizing that the quantity of your research may be reduced as a result.

Required selection criteria:

  • The candidate must have, or complete before the summer of 2021, a PhD degree in the field of materials science, materials chemistry or solid-state physics.
  • Very good knowledge within material science and functional materials
  • Documented experience in pulsed laser deposition and characterization of oxide materials
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills

Preferred selection criteria

  • Experience with solar cell materials and solar cell characterization
  • Experience with teaching at the undergraduate and MSc student level
  • Experience in developing and maintaining lab equipment
  • Involvement in academic outreach activities

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant.

We offer

Salary and conditions

The employment period is 3 years . Postdoctoral candidates are placed in code 1352, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 545 300 per annum before tax, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

It is a prerequisite you can be present at and accessible to the institution on a daily basis.
