Associate Professor of Practice / Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in Acting for Global Screen (PR0259/20-21)

Founded in 1968, the School comprises the Academy of Film, Department of Communication Studies and Department of Journalism, offering 20 programmes at the sub-degree, undergraduate and postgraduate levels to 2,000 students. As a leading school of communication, journalism, and film studies in the Asia-Pacific region, its faculty members work in a dynamic, interdisciplinary academic environment that entails collaboration across multiple fields of study.

The Academy invites applications for full-time position for Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons) in Acting for Global Screen. The appointee is expected to:

  • work closely with the Programme Director on developing the courses within the programme and assist with academic workflow;
  • teach undergraduate courses in screen and stage acting, performance arts and studies;
  • direct, develop and supervise student acting projects, films and rehearsal projects;
  • develop outreach, creative relationships in the industry, and recruitment;
  • create international performance internships; and
  • identify international and local feeder colleges, schools, drama clubs/societies and work with them to encourage a wider pool of applicants for the programme.

Potential candidates should:

  • hold a Doctorate or MFA or Master’s degree in acting, performance studies or a similar field (candidates who hold Bachelor’s degree with remarkable performance records will also be considered);
  • have extensive working knowledge of Stanislavsky’s and Meisner’s methods, and how to apply and teach them for modern screen actors; 
  • have worked at the highest level with the profession either as an actor/director/performer; 
  • have extensive experience in teaching acting at the highest conservatoire level;
  • have an excellent command of English and Chinese; and 
  • possess outstanding professional knowledge/experience of screen acting, directing, script analysis and development, stage acting and stage directing and have a range of professional credits/awards/prizes at the highest level within the industry to support this.

Initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two to three years. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
