The Department of Economics (https://www.ln.edu.hk/econ/en/) is a multi-cultural community of academics dedicated to excellence in teaching and research. Both of the two recent Research Assessment Exercises have rated Lingnan University’s Department of Economics among the top performers in research output in Hong Kong. Its undergraduate teaching is in the context of an inter-disciplinary social sciences programme, where students can opt for different discipline majors or interdisciplinary areas of interest. The Department also offers MPhil and PhD degrees in economics, as well as a taught programme of MSc in International Banking and Finance (MIBF) and Msc in International Development Economics (MIDE).

The China Economic Research Programme (CERP: https://www.ln.edu.hk/cerp/en/) of Lingnan University was established in April 2016 with the generous donation and ardent support from Ho Iu Kwong Charity Foundation. CERP aims to pave the way for closer collaboration on scholarly and policy research between the academic communities and the industries of the Mainland China and Hong Kong. Under this approach, CERP is committed to conducting policy research related to sustainable economic development of the Mainland and Hong Kong as well as promoting knowledge transfer that will benefit both business and labour, and that will foster entrepreneurship and innovation.

We invite applications for Postdoctoral Fellow specializing in any field of economics and preference will be given to empirical researchers.

General Requirements

Applicants should

  1. possess a PhD degree in economics from a reputable university;
  2. be able to teach courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in economics fields effectively;
  3. have undertaken research in the aforementioned field(s); and
  4. be able to publish research output with international impact. Applicants should provide information about their work experience, qualifications, research interests and achievements, and a statement of publication record.

The appointee will

  • teach courses at undergraduate and / or postgraduate levels;
  • conduct independent and joint research;
  • organize research events (e.g., conferences and seminars) and support teaching / training programmes;
  • be engaged in different knowledge transfer activities; and
  • perform certain administrative duties as assigned by the Head of the Department/Centre.

The appointee is required to be engaged primarily in conducting independent and / or joint research. They may however be required to teach courses, supervise postgraduate students, offer professional training and provide service at Department / Unit / Faculty / University levels. They will also undertake duties assigned by the University in relation to developing new research programmes or related activities to enhance research performance. The minimum teaching load for research-track appointee shall normally be two courses (i.e., 6 hours) per academic year.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to two years. Experienced candidate of Postdoctoral Fellow may carry a functional title of Research Assistant Professor.
