Job Description Summary

The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the “go-to” organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Continuation of all GTP positions is contingent upon funding.

Job Description

Our Vector Core is a state-of-the-art facility that provides vector-related materials and services in support of basic and translational research worldwide.

The Vector core is on the hunt for an Associate Director, Preclinical Vector Manufacturing to manage the production for investigators inside and outside of GTP.

As the Associate Director, you will work closely with Vector Leadership to oversee research vector manufacturing activities, develop production schedules, troubleshoot production activities, and review production data. You will work with internal study directors to understand their needs and deliver top-quality research-grade viral vectors for preclinical studies.

In addition, as the Associate Director, you will serve as a back-up to the Associate Director, Preclinical Vector Production – External to interact with external scientists and organizations interested in utilizing preclinical services as well as supervising the shipment of vectors to external organizations.

Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in life sciences with 3-5 years of relevant academic or industrial experience in biologics manufacturing or equivalent combination of education/experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of molecular biology, cell biology, viral-based vector technologies
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, supervise staff and work collaboratively to achieve goals required
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills required
