Full time, permanent

The School of Science and the Environment is seeking an outstanding biomedical science academic for appointment as Principal Lecturer in Biomedical Science on a permanent basis. The postholder will also join the Senior Leadership Team, acting as Deputy Head of School for a three-year term in the first instance, subject to renewal. The successful candidate will report directly to the Head of School.

Duties of the Principal Lecturer role include contributing significantly to an outstanding learning experience for students, both through inspirational teaching and outstanding pastoral care; delivering high-quality teaching and leadership; and undertaking high quality original research leading to peer-reviewed publications.

The Deputy Head of School duties include providing senior leadership in the School; actively participating in the overall leadership, governance and management of the School; and delivering on the strategic and operational plans of the School.  The role will support priorities across the School including student recruitment and retention, learning and teaching, student experience and quality of provision.  In addition, the role will support the Head of School with the establishment of the Three Counties Medical School, particularly in relation to the accreditation of the MBChB course with the General Medical Council and development of the fundamental scientific principles in the curriculum.

The successful candidate will be a proven leader, with the ability to motivate and influence their colleagues to achieve tangible positive outcomes, as well as demonstrate an excellent awareness of the Higher Education environment. The post holder will have demonstrable experience of innovation in curriculum design and development and successful change management.
