MANAGER OF RESEARCH ADMINISTRATION, Mechanical Engineering, to lead the team responsible for research administration in the largest department in the School of Engineering and number-one ranked mechanical engineering department in the world. Will provide critical support for faculty conducting groundbreaking research; direct research administration and partner with the department head and leadership team to create long-term strategies for team structure, development, and service; manage all sponsored research-related financial matters; oversee pre- and post-award grant and contract activities and overall financial management of funding from a wide variety of federal, industrial, and foundation sponsors; develop and implement financial models and strategies to streamline research and financial administration; advise faculty and administration on all matters pertaining to finance and administration; supervise and mentor financial personnel; perform high-level financial work including budget planning and management, complex financial reporting, and oversight of day-to-day financial management operations; manage closing and year-end reporting; analyze and strategically plan for research funding projections and trends, personnel allocations, and other resource management issues; and develop innovative solutions for enhanced department operations performance.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor's degree (master’s preferred); at least seven years’ financial management experience; ability to promote team-building and communicate effectively with faculty and staff; strong customer service, presentation, and oral and written communication skills; knowledge of federal web-based grants management systems, enterprise financial systems, query or grants management tools, and standard federal regulations; interest in working in a fast-paced and challenging environment; and computer and quantitative expertise, including advanced Excel, financial reporting, and relational database skills.  MIT experience and knowledge of KC, SAP, and Cognos strongly preferred.  Job #17759-10
