The Stanford Stroke Center at Stanford University is seeking a Research Data Analyst 2 to be under minimal supervision, perform the most complex technical work associated with a wide variety of analytical data and produce routine, single data sources’ information requests. This exciting position provides an opportunity to become familiar with cutting-edge research in neuroimaging and, stroke and to gain first-hand experience in data collection, processing, and analysis in a diverse laboratory setting. Attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and organizational prowess are requisite to job performance. Experience with acquisition of MRI or CT data, familiarity with image processing and analysis, statistics, and signal/data processing will help in
this position though is not required. The ideal candidate will have some image processing experience in Matlab or Python, but candidates who are motivated to acquire these skills are also encouraged to apply. Similarly, familiarity with Linux is ideal, but not a requirement.

Duties include:

  • Work under consultative or self-initiated direction to assess and produce relevant, standard, or custom information (reports, charts, graphs and tables) from structured data sources by querying data repositories and generating the associated information. Distribute and disseminate reports to applicable agencies, researchers, management and other internal end-users.
  • Devise methods for identifying data patterns, trends in available information sources using a variety of qualitative and quantitative techniques. Determine and recommend additional data collection and reporting requirements.
  • Design and customize reports based upon data in the database.
  • Create non-routine databases and their related information summary; develop algorithms and statistical model; and perform statistical analyses appropriate to complex data and reporting requirements.
  • Serve as a resource for non-routine inquiries such as requests for statistical analyses or surveys.
  • Lead the implementation of data standards and common data elements for data collection.
  • Collaborate with technical staff to standardize and systemize routine reports, dashboards, and metrics.
  • May test prototype software and participate in approval and release process for new software.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with acquisition of MRI or CT data, familiarity with image processing and analysis, statistics, and signal/data processing.
  • Image processing experience in Matlab or Python.
  • Familiarity with Linux.
  • Familiarity with common statistical analysis techniques, including multivariable regression analyses, and appropriate statistical analysis software (eg – R, SPSS, and/or SPS).
  • Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychology, or related field strongly desired.
  • Additional training at the PhD level welcomed.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in a quantitative discipline such as economics, finance, statistics or engineering.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Substantial experience with MS Office and analytical programs.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prioritize workload.
  • Strong listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with basic database concepts and queries.
  • Logical thinker.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to find mistakes efficiently by analyzing the system.
  • Basic statistical ability with some previous exposure to statistics.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-oriented environment; highly organized, flexible and rigorous attention to detail.
  • Ability to use logic to calculate data; efficiently construct a database.
  • Ability to work with data and create structured data from unstructured sources.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce data in a clear and understandable manner meeting user requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple internal and external customers.
  • Ability to take a leadership role on projects and with users/clients.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Sitting in place at computer for long periods of time with extensive keyboarding/dexterity.
  • Occasionally use a telephone.
  • Occasionally write by hand, twist, bend, stoop and squat.
  • Rarely stand, walk, reach or work above shoulders.
