Job Summary

The Research Scientist is responsible for day-to-day coordination of the Molecular Technologies non-profit academic resource (www.moleculartechnologies.org) within the Beckman Institute at Caltech.

Job Duties

  • Collaborate with PI to develop novel molecular imaging technologies
  • Work independently day-to-day as lead researcher on multiple R&D projects
  • Collaborate with other laboratories to apply the technologies in diverse organisms
  • Supervise the work of lab technicians within the Molecular Technologies resource
  • Provide technical support to users of the Molecular Technologies resource
  • Work with a software engineer to develop and maintain the Molecular Technologies web site
  • Contribute to the preparation of publications, grant proposals, and annual reports
  • Other related duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD degee in Bioengineering, Biology, or related field
  • 5+ years wet lab experience including experience with cell culture and either in situ hybridization or immunohistochemistry
  • Must have management and leadership skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be highly organized and proactive
  • Able to plan and design research experiments independently and keep an accurate, detailed and neat lab notebook
  • A successful applicant must be intelligent, dedicated, responsible, meticulous, independent, personable, and interested in creating a unique academic resource at Caltech

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with both in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry
  • Experience with confocal fluorescence microscopy and quantitative analysis of experimental data
  • Experience with single-molecule imaging, spectral imaging, design of nucleic acid systems, blotting techniques, and/or protein engineering
