FIMM Technology Centre is a national and international research core unit providing an extensive spectrum of biomedical research services. FIMM Technology Centre operates several core units, which develop methods and offer services starting from sample management and preparation to genomics, metabolomics and bioinformatics.

Now we seek a Laboratory technician

Projects, duties and qualifications

The main duties of the laboratory technician consist of sample management and preparations, equipment set-up/care and customer service. The position requires previous laboratory skills in RNA- and DNA preparations and experience in other types of sample preparations are also beneficial (e.g. urine/plasma/serum/Ficoll sample preparation, electron microscopy, ultracentrifugation). Learning and setting-up workflows for high-throughput sample extractions with new dedicated equipment will be an important part of the work.

The position offers the chance to master and develop truly versatile technologies and skills both in technical as well as in customer service work in a vibrant international research institute. We look for candidates with e.g. laboratory technician/analyst, bioanalyst, laboratory engineer or coordinator training, previous laboratory experience, evidence of initiative, versatility and organizational ability and good social skills. Enthusiasm in workflow and service development and good command of English will be appreciated

The position is shared between EV/HiPrep Cores (head, PhD Maija Puhka) and biobanking activities (laboratory coord., PhD Tiina Vesterinen) and Beat DKD (diabetic kidney disease) project (PI, Prof. Leif groop), which are all operating at FIMM and share a common goal of high quality sample management and preparations. The successful candidate will help to offer and develop these methods or services: professional sample storage and pick-up, extracellular vesicle (EV) isolation and analytics as well as high capacity nucleic acid extractions and quality control.

Position, applications and contact information

Position will be available 1.2.-31.12.2021. The start date can be set according to agreement, but preference will be given to candidates who can start as early as possible. Salary will be based on the University salary scheme depending on the degree/work experience, likely on expert and support staff personnel requirement levels 5-7. Position will be filled as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
