The Opportunity

The Graduate Studies Deanship seeks an incumbent for the position of Dean of Graduate Studies, who will report to the Provost. The Dean of Graduate Studies is an advocate for the graduate enterprise and plays a lead role in shaping the future of graduate education at Zayed University. The Dean assures the quality of the educational experience for all graduate students, advances the University’s mission and priorities related to graduate education and provides pan-university leadership in all aspects of graduate education both within the institution and in the U.A.E.

The Dean leads and directs the operations of the Graduate Studies Deanship (GSD).  In this role the Dean cultivates progressive academic and administrative policies and practices related to the areas of graduate education, graduate student scholarship, the academic quality of graduate programs and graduate student recruitment including: admission, retention, and academic achievement.

The Responsibilities

Through effective leadership, the Dean of Graduate Studies has responsibility to:

• provide strategic leadership for dynamic graduate study at Zayed University by promoting graduate education as an institutional priority
• advocating for excellence in all aspects of graduate education across the entire graduate student life cycle
• facilitating effective liaising between graduate students, faculty and senior administration
• fostering participation of the Colleges in all aspects of the graduate enterprise
• representing the ZU graduate enterprise to external entities
• effectively employ integrated Graduate Enrollment Management techniques to optimize graduate recruiting, admissions, registration and graduation processes across all graduate programs
• provide data-driven enrollment reports as required
• provide leadership to effectively distribute graduate student scholarships, Teaching Assistant-ships and Research Assistant-ships
• develop, implement and manage the Graduate Studies budget
• provide oversight for planning, directing, developing, and evaluating graduate programs to ensure maintenance of the highest standards of excellence
• in collaboration with the Colleges and Senior administration develop, implement and enforce institution wide academic policies governing graduate studies
• work with stakeholders across the university to add value to the graduate student experience
• support Colleges to improve graduate curricula and to develop and implement new graduate program offerings that respond to National needs
• effectively lead the Graduate Studies Deanship and staff
• to optimize productivity, and to provide effective student support throughout the graduate life cycle
• promote synergy between graduate education and research
• chair the Graduate Council
• perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President and University Provost.

The Requirements

Must possess a PhD and a distinguished academic research, grantsmanship and teaching credentials with at least 10 years as Associate (or preferably full) Professor and a minimum of 5 years in an academic administrative post. Must have a proven record of developing collegial relationships with faculty, staff and constituent groups and experience in development and monitoring of collaborative partnerships and articulation agreements with other institutions and agencies.
