About the position

We have a vacancy for an Associate Professor within Colour imaging at the Department of computer science.

The candidate is expected to carry out research in the field of colour imaging and teach courses in the study programs at the Department of Computer Science.

The position is at Campus Gjøvik.

The position reports to head of department. 

Duties of the position

The candidate is expected to play a major role in teaching and supervision in computer science. The candidate will play a role in developing the educational profile in the computer science programs and ensuring an excellent learning environment, in collaboration with colleagues, students, and external stakeholders. The Faculty’s study programs should have a strong international profile, and the Associate Professor is expected to be able to contribute to the development of international alliances and collaboration.

The candidate must have very good colour imaging background. The Associate Professor is expected to take a role in the master’s program Computational Colour and Spectral Imaging (COSI, https://cosi-master.eu/). The candidate must in addition be able to teach courses in our bachelor programs (Bachelor in Computer Engineering and Bachelor in Programming) and master level (Master in Applied Computer Science).

The candidate is expected to carry out research in the field of colour imaging. In addition, research in colour imaging linked with one of the following areas is an advantage: computer graphics, vision science, multispectral imaging, cultural heritage, material appearance or medical imaging. The research should have a long-term perspective according to the strategy of the department and contribute to the current group research. Within the initial period the candidate is expected to contribute with research and/or supervision in conjunction with the projects ApPEARS (http://www.appearsitn.eu) and CHANGE (http://www.change-itn.eu). Research activities at the department rely crucially on external funding, and the development of educational programs may also receive external funding. The associate professor is expected to work actively to receive research grants and other external funding from the Research Council of Norway, Nordic and European research and educational agencies, relevant industry, and other available sources.

In addition to the responsibilities in teaching and research, an associate professor is expected to be able to disseminate relevant parts of her/his research to a wider audience. The associate professor is furthermore expected to participate in the formal management of research, education, and other relevant areas of activity in agreement with the Department Head.

Required selection criteria

The position of Associate Professor within Colour imaging requires that you meet the criteria in the regulations concerning appointment and promotion to teaching and research posts section 1-5.

The candidate must: 

• Hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) in computer science, colour imaging, colour science or a closely related area.
• Have a strong background in colour imaging. 
• Be able to teach courses in our Bachelor program (Bachelor in Computer Engineering and Bachelor in Programming) and master program (Master in Computational Colour and Spectral Imaging and Master in Applied Computer Science).
• Have experience and potential in teaching, supervision, research and scientific output. 
• Be able to lead, conduct, consult and collaborate in research projects within colour and visual computing.
• Demonstrate the communication skills required for excellent teaching, supervision and dissemination.
• Have a good publication record in terms of recent papers in international peer reviewed journals and recent publications in other relevant, well-known international publication channels.

You must document relevant basic competence for teaching and supervision at university/higher education-level, at the same level that is required for an position as Associate Professor, ref. Regulations § 1-4 (3). If this cannot be documented, you are required to complete an approved course in university teaching within two years of commencement. NTNU offers qualifying courses.

It is a prerequisite that within three years of appointment, new employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language can demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three in the course for Norwegian for foreigners at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.

• Knowledge of one or more in the following is an advantage: computer graphics, vision science, multispectral imaging, cultural heritage, medical imaging, or material appearance. 
• Good oral and written communication abilities in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language.

Salary and conditions

The gross salary for the position of associate professor  (code 1011)  is normally from NOK 560 000 to NOK 760 000 per year, depending on qualifications and seniority. From the salary, 2% is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The engagement is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants, and the acts relating to Control of the Export of Strategic Goods, Services and Technology. Candidates who by assessment of the application and attachment are seen to conflict with the criteria in the latter law will be prohibited from recruitment to NTNU. After the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.

In the assessment of the best-qualified applicant, we will emphasize education, experience and personal suitability as well as your motivation for the position. You will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and undertake supervision. Evaluation of these skills will be based on documented experience and relevant teaching qualifications. Applicants with teaching experience at university level are preferred. Quality and breadth of the teaching qualifications will be evaluated.
