INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE PROGRAM (IHP) TECHNOLOGISTEnvironment, Health and Safety Office (EHS)-Industrial Hygiene Program, to assist with and provide advice for the support of Institute academic and business objectives with due consideration of occupational health laws, federal and state regulations, and good practices.  Will provide asbestos services to the Institute and function as an integral member of a multidisciplinary EHS office. May also work in various EHS program areas other than main area of expertise. Responsibilities include working closely with MIT’s project managers and Facilities, Housing and other departments to ensure regulatory compliance with asbestos projects and guide hazardous material building surveys; working closely with abatement contractor’s, project managers, and supervisors while overseeing projects to ensure regulatory compliance; communicating with federal, state, and local agencies on asbestos-related issues with the support of EHS officers; assisting with the development of general EHS programs for the Institute under a variety of federal, state, and local regulations; keeping abreast of pertinent regulations and developments in EHS in order to assist EHS officers; and performing other duties as directed by the director, associate director, senior officers, and officers of EHS in order to meet EHS missions. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor's degree in an EHS-related discipline, engineering, physical science, or biological science/chemistry; at least one year of experience in building science, EHS, or related field of work; ability to lift and carry weights of approximately 35 lbs.; and a current driver’s license.  

PREFERRED:  knowledge of asbestos abatement, industrial hygiene, construction industry, and building hazardous material surveys; MA-DLS asbestos inspector/project monitor certifications; and PLM/PCM analysis certification.  Job #19186-5

Must be able to obtain a Department of Defense security clearance. 

Will participate in an on-call rotational system as secondary on-call team member, providing routine and off-hours support when necessary to resolve emergency EHS issues and serve as support to emergency response groups.
