Job Description Summary

The Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic (Cohen Clinic) at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a full time Staff Therapist.  The Cohen Clinic provides low to no cost, evidence-based behavioral health care to Veterans and military family members, including individual therapy for children, adolescents, and adults, as well as couple and family therapy, in an interdisciplinary setting with Case Management and Medication Management.

Job Description

The Staff Therapist will provide psychodiagnostic assessments, with feedback, and treatment planning and/or referrals as appropriate. They will provide evidence-based psychotherapy to clients with a range of presenting concerns, including with adults, children, adolescents, parents, and families. The Staff Therapist will maintain documentation of assessments and treatment interventions. Additionally, this position will have opportunities for professional development, including weekly interdisciplinary consultation sessions and clinical trainings provided at PennMedicine and through the Cohen Veterans Network. They may provide psychotherapy supervision to clinicians in training and will support ongoing quality improvement and program evaluation initiatives as part of our practice.

The population treated at the Cohen Clinic is multicultural and diverse with respect to race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status. Clinicians have the opportunity to treat underserved groups of veterans, including women veterans and LGBTQ+ veterans and family members. Accordingly, applicants with training, experience, or interest in multicultural/diversity issues in case conceptualization and treatment and working with diverse populations would be a good fit for the position. Interested staff also have the opportunity to engage in a Racial Equity Working Group that meets monthly to continue to advance racial equity within the clinic, as well as for those we serve.

The Cohen Clinic has been operating fully remotely since March of 2020. This position is anticipated to start virtually and will likely be remote for a large portion of the 2021 year. Training in telehealth and remote work will be provided as needed.

Position requires two evenings per week until 7pm and some additional non-standard hours per client needs (e.g., occasional mornings at 8am).

Requirements

Counseling Psychologist B:  

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or related field with 3 to 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Counseling Psychologist C:  

  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree required in Psychology or Social Work with 3 to 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Both levels:

  • Must be licensed in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Licensure in New Jersey and/or Delaware is a plus.NJ or DE licensure required within the first year of employment (with reimbursement for related expenses).
  • Experience delivering evidence-based care strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the military or working with military service members and racially and ethnically diverse populations is strongly preferred. Veterans, service members, military family members, and those who identify as BIPOC are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Must pass Pennsylvania s Child Protective Services Act (also known as Act 73) background checks, within 30-90 days of employment.
