Job Description

Artificial spin ice (ASI) systems arrays of orderly arranged magnetic nanoislands fabricated by nanolithographic methods. They form a perfect medium to study spin wave propagation and interactions between the nanomagnets. The potential application is in magnon computing which utilizes the precession of the electron spin for information transport and processing. This field has huge potential to replace CMOS technologies as it does not dissipate significant power. ASI systems are typically fabricated by electron beam lithography. However, the multi process step in electron beam lithography technique imposed stringent alignment requirement on the fabrication. Our laboratory has developed a self-aligned method via multiple stationary deposition stages to transfer patterns and as a result, unique and novel nanostructures can be designed and fabricated with material deposited at desired locations. Preliminary characterization by magnetic force microscopy and simulations have shown interesting results. The objectives of the research position are as follows: -

  • Design and fabricate various novel structures via the stepwise nanosphere lithography technique with different materials.
  • Characterize the nanostructures by magnetic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Brillouin Light Scattering, and other techniques.
  • Simulate nanomagnetic structures to explain/correlate with experimental phenomena.

Interested applicants can also send their motivation letter and curriculum vitae via email to A/P Vivian Ng (elengv@nus.edu.sg).

Qualifications

  • Must have a recognized MSc equivalent with interest in the microelectronics area.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.
