TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE I, Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research, to be involved in cutting-edge scientific projects aimed at understanding the metabolism of cancer cells as part of the Vander Heide Lab. The research takes advantage of biochemical and molecular biology techniques and sophisticated mouse models of human cancer.  In addition to mouse work, the position brings involvement in various aspects of this work, including highly sophisticated techniques such as gas chromatography and mass spectrometry and an opportunity to test novel approaches to cancer treatment. Responsibilities include involvement in day-to-day lab operations and various laboratory research experiments, including standard and specialized techniques; animal surgeries, infusions, and other procedures; mouse colony management and husbandry; isolating genomic DNA from tail tissue and PCR-based genotyping; participation in the isolation and histopathological analysis of tumors; using standard molecular biology techniques, including molecular cloning, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, and tissue culture; maintaining laboratory supplies; and participating in laboratory meetings and educational events. 

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree and undergraduate training in biology, chemistry, or similar life sciences; two years’ experience working in a laboratory environment (undergraduate level experience is acceptable); familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and safety issues and following scientific protocols; practiced documentation skills; understanding of the basics of maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by complying with regulations and following standards/procedures; excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work and exceeding quality standards; self-motivation; experience working independently and as part of a team; comfort working with a diverse community of faculty, staff, and students; and willingness to work with animals.
