Job Description Summary
We are looking for a Data Scientist to join a large team working on highly visible web resources for infectious disease datasets (VEuPathDB.org), microbiome experiments (MicrobiomeDB.org), and Clinical/Epidemiological studies (ClinEpiDB.org). This position is contingent upon funding.
- Develop user interface ‘workspace’ features that facilitate user-directed exploration or statistical analysis of complex datasets.
- Develop strategies for visualizing emerging datatypes in microbiome research, such as metatranscriptomics, metabolomics, and microbial strain-level details.
- Address website and data bugs in a timely manner.
- Additional duties, as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, bioinformatics, biostatistics, biology or related field and 3-5 yrs of relevant work experience required. Experience in data science, data visualization application development, or building web-based tools for statistical analysis is required. Experience in bioinformatics or microbial genomics is a strong plus. Experience with and working knowledge of JavaScipt, UNIX, Perl, R, SQL and relational databases and XML are all required. An active interest in web programming is desirable and experience a plus
