Applications are invited for the post of 22 months in the Geography Department at Royal Holloway as part of an AHRC funded project led by the Royal College of Music. This is a full time post, immediately available from the 11 January 2021, or as soon as possible thereafter.

This is an exciting opportunity for a researcher to join a project team of the AHRC funded project, Music, Migration and Mobility (funded by the AHRC and led by Norbert Meyn at the Royal College of Music). The project’s main aim is to investigate the geographical, institutional and creative mobilities of musicians who migrated to Britain from Nazi-ruled Europe during the 1930s and '40s, and the contributions they made to the shaping of post-war British musical culture (

The post holder will contribute to the research and web communication components, including the creation of interactive maps or visualisations drawing from a range of project media including archives records, oral histories, musical recordings and productions.

The post-holder will be working within a wider project team based at the Royal College of Music and the University of Salzburg. At Royal Holloway the project sits within the Department of Geography and the Royal Holloway Centre for the Geohumanities

This position would suit an experienced, versatile and dynamic researcher with strong interests in 20th century culture, mapping and storytelling as well as technical skills and experience of research in the digital humanities; the ability work independently in a wide range of environments; produce research outputs for scholarly and general audiences; and to assist with public engagement and events.

In return we offer a highly competitive rewards and benefits package including:

  • Generous annual leave entitlement
  • Training and Development opportunities
  • Pension Scheme with generous employer contribution
  • Various schemes including Cycle to Work, Season Ticket Loans and help with the cost of Eyesight testing.
  • Free parking

The post is based in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London.
