City attracts around 20,000 students (over 40% postgraduate level) from more than 150 countries and staff from over 75 countries.

In the last decade, City has almost tripled the proportion of its total academic staff producing world-leading or internationally excellent research.

Led by President, Professor Sir Paul Curran, City has made significant investments in its academic staff, its estate and its infrastructure and continues to work towards realising its vision of being a leading global university.
The exciting role of Senior Student Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Officer presents the role-holder with a unique opportunity to change practices, policies and the institutional culture at City around EDI for students. This role works across the student lifecycle and across the institution, partnering with students, academics and a range of professional services to design and deliver projects and initiatives to support student EDI and remove barriers to student success.

This role is pivotal to deliver City’s objectives for EDI as set out in our Education and Student Strategy, Access and Participation Plan and EDI Strategy and make a real difference to our diverse student community. In particular, the role-holder will partner with students and staff to support the institution to realise its commitments to race equality, strengthened following the prevalence of the Black Lives Matter movement over the summer, and will also work with students to continue to ensure that the right support is in place to support those groups most impacted by the ongoing global pandemic.

  • Provision of specialist expert advice and guidance to senior staff across City to inform strategy and policy development
  • Planning, monitoring and reporting on equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) for students to EDI committee and Education and Student Committee
  • Collaborating and partnering with students and colleagues to develop and deliver projects and areas of work relating to EDI for students, including work on eliminating degree-awarding gaps
  • Act as a definitive source of expertise for colleagues and students to ensure every aspect of the student journey is designed and delivered to reflect the highest standards in equality, diversity and inclusive practice.
  • To be a member of the Education and Student Strategy Support Unit Leadership team

They will have strong analytical and communication skills to present complex and sensitive information. Creative thinking and a can-do attitude are essential for this post. In addition, we are looking for someone with a passion, knowledge and willingness to learn and challenge themselves and others on matters relating to EDI in a higher education context. Applications from individuals from diverse backgrounds are positively encouraged.
